The fire at a historical mansion in Skowhegan on Friday has been ruled accidental and the building was not destroyed. According to the Skowhegan Fire Chief, the fire at the Gov. Abner Coburn mansion on Friday afternoon was likely accidental. He says it started when repairs were being done on the mansion’s metal roof where there was an open spot. They were cutting steel where the chimney used to be. The chief says the State Fire Marshal determined the fire was accidental. He says the building was significantly damaged, especially the attic, but it wasn’t destroyed. The chief tells us that one firefighter was taken to a hospital for heat-related injuries but was later released.
