One person is dead after a fire in the Oxford County town of Mexico.
The fire was reported just after 7 a.m. Thursday at 5 Tucker St.
When firefighters arrived, they found most of the fire was in the front porch area. Crews used a ladder to rescue one female from the building, and she was not hurt. However, once the fire was out, the body of a female was found inside.
Her body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta, where officials said Friday an autopsy had been completed, but the results were still pending.
The name and age of the person who died were not being released.
Investigators said their investigation was still open and ongoing Friday. There was no word as to how the fire started.
The Mexico Fire Department Friday called it "a very difficult scene" that required the help of numerous departments and agencies.
