PHOTOS: Officials with the Cumberland Fire Department are placing partial credit on the weather in helping them put out a serious car fire Thursday night.
The area experienced heavy rains, which helped suffocate the flames after a car burst into flames on Greely Road near Wind Drive. Officials say the people inside the car were able to escape without injury.
It's unclear what caused the car to catch on fire. The most common causes of car fires while in motion include an overheating engine, fuel system leaks, or electric vehicle batteries, which can sometimes overheat, burst into flames and even explode.
