A veteran Detroit firefighter, with 20 years of experience, is hospitalized Thursday and in critical condition after an undisclosed medical emergency at a fire station.
The male firefighter, 46, had just finished a 24-hour shift during which his team made three fire runs and an EMS run Wednesday, said Dave Fornell, deputy commissioner of the Detroit Fire Department.
The firefighter works at the fire station at West Grand Boulevard and was going off duty when the emergency took place, Fornell said.
The exact nature of the emergency was not immediately known. The 46-year-old's fellow firefighters transported him to Henry Ford Hospital, where he is being treated.
