Fire broke out in the bedroom of a Traverse City apartment.
Residents of an apartment complex south of the Centre and Grant streets intersection watched Sunday afternoon as Traverse City Fire Department firefighters attacked the blaze and vented smoke from the first-floor apartment and another in the story above it.
Department Chief Jim Tuller said everyone was out of the building when the first engine company arrived at around 5:30 p.m. The apartment's occupant later went to Munson Medical Center by private vehicle — Tuller had no information about the occupant's injuries.
Apartment fires like this one raise concerns about the smoke and toxins they create, Tuller said.
Tuller said investigators will look into the fire's cause Monday morning. Residents of the building's other apartments, including the one directly above, were able to return following an air quality check by both the fire department and DTE Energy, he said.
