Muskegon County Airport officials want the public to know that federally required live fire training will be taking place at the airport Friday and Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. So, if anyone sees smoke and fire coming from the airport, they should know that this is a training exercise required by the Federal Aviation Administration so that the airport can provide commercial airline service.
The Norton Shores Fire Department will be conducting the training with live situations and classroom instruction “to improve readiness.” The sessions will be conducted using a mobile propane-fed fire training simulator, which eliminates the need to use firefighting foam containing PFAS chemicals (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). Only water will be used during the training.
