Union City Fire Chief Dave Hughes will return to the October meeting of the Union Township board with a formal presentation requesting the trustees replace the department’s 34-year-old tanker. Hughes has one proposed bid from CFB, of Lansing, for $253,019, but, trustee Bryan Washburn asked him to get at least one other bid. Washburn does not want Union City Fire Department to face issues similar to what Quincy Fire Association did with the purchase of its truck. He and trustee Clint Burdick both said they hoped the public would come to the meeting to hear the proposals before the board makes any decision. Hughes said Aug. 14 was the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Union City Fire Department in 1899. The truck to be replaced is not that old, put into service new in 1985.
