A Grand Rapids family is safe after their home on Dickinson Street caught fire early Friday, Feb. 8.
Grand Rapids Deputy Fire Chief Ron Tennant says they were called to the home around 6:15 a.m. Two adults and a child were inside the home, but escaped unharmed.
A firefighter also had to be checked out by EMS for injuries. The chief would not say what those injuries were. Neighbor Joshua King says he was outside with a man who lived there when they say black smoke. The man ran inside to wake everyone up, while King called 911.
King says flames were coming out of the roof and parts of the second floor fell into the first floor. He also says he saw a female firefighter fall through the roof. He says she was pulled out and taken to an ambulance. He also says another firefighter fell through the roof at some point.
The home is a total loss.
