A Clare City Firefighter who died in a workplace accident will be laid to rest on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Clare City Police Department said Firefighter Ethan Gage lost his life in a workplace accident on Feb. 4 while in Vernon Township. The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office said the 26-year-old was using a tire changing machine to replace some farm implement tires when the tire exploded. Deputies said Gage sustained severe face and head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clare Police Department said Gage was a son, father, husband, and dedicated firefighter. Fire Chief James Chapman said Gage had been with the department for almost seven years and was a lieutenant and the training officer for the fire department. "Ethan was a boy who you'd want to call your son. He was a great individual, hard-worker," Chapman said.
