A fire heavily damaged a home on Battle Creek's south side on Wednesday.
Battle Creek firefighters were called to 26 N. 32nd Street at 11:58 a.m., according to Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant.
The first firefighters to arrive found flames and smoke coming from the single family home, he said.
Sturdivant said the residents had left a short time before the fire was reported and no one was inside at the time. The house is owned by Eric Blair of CE Investments.
Lorna Williton, who rents the home and lives with her son and daughter, said she and her son left about 11 a.m. to do some shopping and her daughter was at school.
She returned to find her house on fire.
"Everything we owned was in there," she said. "We have no insurance and pretty much everything is gone."
