It’s becoming more common every day, emergency responders getting called to save someone who could die from a drug overdose. Now a company known for producing a popular opioid is working on an overdose reversal drug stronger than what’s currently available.
“Our agency responses to about 100 overdose cases a year,” said Spencer Scanlon.
Scanlon is a firefighter and paramedic with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, responding to drug overdoses is something he’s gotten used to.
If it’s opioid related the overdose reversal drug Narcan is a must have.
“In a matter of five minutes you can go from a patient that is unresponsive from chest compressions to up talking to you,” said Scanlon about the drug.
