Flaming plastic, Styrofoam, cardboard and wax-paper packaging, plates and disposable silverware caused thick smoke to pour out doorways of a warehouse about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, May 23 in Pittsfield Township, fire officials say.
Multiple fire departments responded as nearly a half-dozen employees evacuated the large commercial building owned by Hong Far Food Services at 3438 East Ellsworth Road, located near the intersection of Interstate 94 and US-23, Pittsfield Township Fire Chief Sean Gleason said.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Gleason said.
Gleason said fire crews used a fire suppression foam to combat the flames.
“It was one of those that wouldn’t go out with just water,” he said.
