Vanderbilt’s new fire chief is on a mission to change with the way the department interacts with other first responders and to boost community support of the department.
Gavin Babieracki started as the Vanderbilt-Corwith Fire Department’s new chief last month.
“I just want to help out,” Babieracki said. “I want to change things, I want to make the department better — and I also want to bridge the gap between the community and the fire department.”
Babieracki, 25, said one goal he has is increasing ties between the department and community members. Babieracki plans to create emergency response preplans by visiting businesses in the community and surveying places such as schools, churches and manufacturing facilities.
