Two workers died Monday afternoon after they were crushed under several slabs of granite at a Sterling Heights plant, according to police. Lt. Mario Bastianelli said an employee called 911 about 2:45 p.m. asking for assistance from police officers and firefighters at the Stone Warehouse of Michigan on the 7200 block of 19 Mile Road, west of Van Dyke Avenue. "It's a recovery operation at this point," Bastianelli said, adding he anticipated crews working until late Monday to recover and remove the bodies. Officials initially thought only one worker had had been trapped, but later discovered two people had been crushed under about 11 slabs of granite. The names of the victims, 60 and 28, were not released. They were described as a driver and a warehouse worker.
