A union representing U.S. Environmental Protection Agency workers is voicing concerns over the relocation of EPA emergency responders to an Ann Arbor office.
The EPA this week relocated 19 workers from a Grosse Ile research facility to an Ann Arbor emissions-testing facility, a move the American Federation of Government Employees Local 704 argues could endanger worker health and delay environmental emergency responses. Air quality test results from the Ann Arbor facility, which does vehicle-emissions testing, found unsafe levels of carbon dioxide in the offices where the emergency responders started working Monday, Sept. 9, the union claims. The EPA says followup tests show the air is safe.
