The Auburn Hills Fire Department has received a $718,551 grant that will allow it to hire three new firefighters.
The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant, otherwise known as SAFER, is a Department of Homeland Security program under the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Departments throughout the nation are awarded funds based on the needs of shift commanders.
“These three new positions will allow our fire department to run more smoothly with dedicated shift commanders who will assume exterior incident command responsibilities at emergency scenes enabling them to implement better strategic action planning and to oversee the safety of the scene,” Ellen Taylor, Auburn Hills fire chief, said.
