The Flushing Fire Department, in tandem with the Montrose Township Fire Department, has been chosen to receive $302,200 in federal grant money to purchase new equipment.
The Assistance of Firefighters grant (AFG), which is provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will enable the Flushing and Montrose Township fire departments to replace 44 complete SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus) and also an extra 44 spare SCBA bottles.
According to the office of Congressman Dan Kildee (MIBy 05), the Flushing Fire Department’s overall share of the grant totals $274,472.
Kildee’s office has also announced that the Saginaw Fire Department will receive $70,472 through the AFG program.
