A barn was destroyed but firefighters managed to save a house on Monday night when a fire broke out at 528 West Colon Road in Batavia Township. Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says Bronson firefighters were dispatched by Branch County Central Dispatch at 8:18 p.m.. When they arrived, a 28 foot by 32 foot wood barn was fully engulfed in flames. Wilber reports the vinyl siding on the residence near the barn was melting but quick work from fire crews kept the fire from spreading to the house. Sherwood and Union City fire departments were called for one tanker each. About 10,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire. The Michigan State Police and Lifecare Ambulance also responded. No injuries were reported.
