Both Bronson and Quincy volunteer fire departments have changed staffing since Monday to make sure they are ready for any response. Quincy Chief Mike Sherman said through at least mid-April “a crew of at least three medically-trained personnel and a fire engine operator will be maintained at the firehouse and able to respond to calls. ” Bronson Chief Scott Wilber said his department will also staff 24/7 with two men in six hour shifts. “We respond to all medical emergencies in our six townships, except for Batavia and Matteson where LifeCare would beat us to the call.” Dispatchers now screen medical calls to determine if the patients has COVID-19 symptoms so responders can don personal protection equipment. “These responders will also answer fire calls and determine what other personnel are needed,” Wilber said.
