A small group of first responders gathered Monday morning in Sterling Heights for a mini-Memorial Day caravan in place of the city's traditional service and parade.
Like thousands of communities across the country, the Sterling Heights parade was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-home directive to avoid spreading the highly contagious disease.
Four police cruisers and two fire rigs -- with lights flashing and sirens sounded -- took part in the virtual caravan, which aired live on social media and wrapped up a weeklong list of alternate Memorial Day activities. “She did sustain some minor injuries but she’s fine. Thankfully, she’s not in the hospital. It’s just a miracle she’s doing wonderful,” said Birmingham Fire Department Chief, Paul Wells.
