A space heater in a Huron County home is believed to have sparked a fire that claimed a woman’s life on her 60th birthday. About 7:25 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, Port Austin firefighters responded to a trailer house fire in the 1200 block of Port Austin Road in Hume Township. A passerby had reported the fire to Huron County Central Dispatch, according to Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson. Firefighters discovered a body on the floor of the residence, near the doorway. Fearful that the structure could collapse, the firefighters pulled the body from the structure, Hanson said. A sheriff’s deputy was on scene directing traffic when he began looking into the situation and to identify the victim. Over the next several hours, investigators determined the deceased was Terry A. Glowacki. “With her 60th birthday occurring that day, it was believed she had been celebrating in her home,” Hanson said. “The home was basically heated by space heaters.”
