Millage renewals on the Tuesday, Aug. 3 election ballot will give voters in Parma and Sandstone townships the choice to continue tax funding for fire and police services.
The first proposal for Parma Township is a renewal of 1.25 mills -- or $1.25 per $1,000 of taxable value -- to provide funds for a portion of the costs for fire protection within the township.
“(The funds) provide for the operating and maintenance of the fire department, along with purchases of apparatus -- fire trucks, equipment, etc. -- to serve the needs of the department, so we can serve the needs of our people,” said Parma Township Supervisor Wendy Chamberlain. If approved, the millage will be levied for six years, between 2022-27, raising an estimated $113,098 in the first year.
A second public safety proposal will renew .5 mills to provide funds for a portion of the costs for police protection services within Parma Township.
