It’s not every day firefighters get called to rescue a raccoon with its head stuck in a sewer cover. In fact, Lt. Brian Lorkowski says he’s never been on a call like this before.
It happened in Harrison Township in Metro Detroit at Clearview Drive and South River Road on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 8. That’s when Lt. Lorkowski says his department got a call to help Macomb County Animal Control. Lt. Lorkowski says the first thing they considered doing was to try and cut the raccoon free, but they quickly realized that option wasn’t going to work.
“We didn’t want to put a saw too close because it could heat up the cast iron and injure the animal and we didn’t want to nick it with a saw,” Lt. Lorkowski told MLive. “We were trying all different kinds of options to not try and hurt it, but it was stuck in there really good.”
