Help wanted signs are universal these days. It seems like everyone is hiring. An industry that all of us rely on to keep us and our loved ones safe, and in some cases alive, is no exception. Standing next to his department’s tanker truck, Long Lake Township Fire Chief Andrew Down admits it's the hardest thing in the world. The department currently has five open positions, trying to fill all for paramedic firefighters. The Long Lake Township Fire department has just about everything it needs to keep the people it serves safe, all the trucks, tools and gear. The only thing they are missing is not enough people. "So we are, as I think every place else in the country right now, extremely short-staffed," explains Down.
