The new Paw Paw fire station will have so much room firefighters won’t know what to do with the space.
That’s the assessment of one of the assistant fire chiefs, Jim DeGroff.
“We are not going to know what to do with the room,” DeGroff said. “We’re kind of in our station currently like a jigsaw puzzle. The trucks only fit certain ways.”
The groundbreaking for the $5.9 million project is Sept. 30. The Paw Paw Fire Department’s current station has three bays, while the new station will have five double bays, so all the trucks face out, First Assistant Fire Chief DeGroff said.
Voters passed the bond for the new station in the Aug. 3 election. Taxes will increase by $47.50 per $100,000 of state equalized value for homeowners.
