The Peninsula Township Fire Department saw their busiest year ever in 2021.

Fire Chief Fred Gilstorff believes the increase in activity was due to more people getting outside, after staying in the year before.
He says the majority of departments in Grand Traverse County all saw fifteen-point percent increases in runs. As of now, their firefighters are training to improve more and more everyday. “My folks have done a great job of protecting themselves, staying safe, taking care of the people who they need to take care of,” said Gilstorff. “So yeah, we’d like to see that, we’re constantly improving our skills, and our experience and knowledge.”
