There are two Norman Township Fire Department millages on the Aug. 2 ballot for Norman Township voters to decide.
Jack VanderBie, Norman Township fire chief, said the millages’ funding is crucial to the fire department. “That’s where we get our funding to operate from,” VanderBie said. The fire department does both fire response and basic life support ambulance services in the township as emergency medical technicians and medical first responders.
“On our ambulance, we run a basic transport which is run with a minimum of an EMT and an MFR. The ambulance has been bought and paid for by the township … since probably the mid-’80s,” VanderBie said. “We’re a long ways away from a medical facility, so township residents decided that they wanted to get an ambulance and so they did and we’ve had one ever since.”
