A 10-year-old child was killed and three teens were injured after a car crashed and wrapped around a tree and caught fire on Detroit's east side early Saturday morning, according the Detroit Police Department. The vehicle fire was found by DPD officers just after midnight Saturday on the 2600 block of East Canfield. Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and provided medical attention, but one occupant, a 10-year-old, died due to injuries. As of Sunday afternoon, one teen is in critical condition, and two other teens are in stable condition. Detroit police say officers tried to stop the vehicle earlier in the evening for erratic driving, but the traffic stop was ultimately called off in the interest of public safety. Preliminary information points to speed as a potential factor in the crash, but police say the investigation is ongoing.
