Police and fire personnel will serve lunch at Muskegon High School this week in an effort to build positive relationships between high schoolers and the public safety departments. In a “Day of Service,” Muskegon public safety officers will visit the high school cafeteria Tuesday, Nov. 22, to serve a Thanksgiving lunch to the high schoolers during their 10:30 a.m. and noon lunch periods, according to a district news release. Police and fire officials are hoping to use the day as an opportunity to open “positive lines of communication” between the public safety departments and high school students, the release said. “School safety is at the forefront for myself and the Muskegon Police and Fire Departments,” said Chief Timothy Kozal, director of public safety. “These interactions, in a comfortable and fun environment, can increase community-police relations.” Oftentimes, children only ever interact with police officers during negative or difficult situations, Kozal said.
