Two hunters are safe after being rescued from the Manistee River. A water rescue team and medical crews responded to Rainbow Jim's Boat Launch at Fife Lake around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. While patrolling the area, a conservation officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources noticed the hunters struggling in the river. One of the hunters told the officer they overshot their boat launch and that they had been in the water for about 40 minutes trying to get their boat back to the launch. The conservation officer got the hunters out of the water before rescue crews arrived. The hunters were then sent home. Rescue crews were able to remove the boat from the river. Fire Chief Scott Tinker said people should always be prepared for these types of situations.
