Michigan Department of Natural Resources, or DNR, scheduled three prescribed burns in Allegan County's Clyde Township Thursday. All three burns total 115 acres and aim to improve habitats for birds, according to the DNR. "Prescribed burns are one way the Michigan Department of Natural Resources keeps lands and forests healthy," DNR officials said. "The burns are conducted by highly trained DNR personnel in designated state-managed areas during appropriate weather conditions and in cooperation with the proper authorities and local units of government." Public safety is a priority during all prescribed burns, which are sometimes canceled due to weather and wind conditions, according to the DNR.
