The Union City Fire Department has received a $2,000 grant from Michigan Gas Utilities that will be used to pay for new structural firefighting boots.
It’s part of $10,000 in grants that are being awarded by Michigan Gas Utilities to support first responders throughout its communities.
The funding is part of the utility’s Rewarding Responders Grant program, which helps police, fire and emergency medical service agencies purchase lifesaving equipment or important training.
The boots being bought by the Union City Fire Department are said to be a key piece of protective equipment for firefighters, allowing them to safely respond to and move around a variety of emergency scenes, including fires, vehicle accidents and rescue efforts.
