A new nonprofit is setting out with the goal of supporting local firefighters. The Friends of Chesterfield Local Fire Department earned its 501c3 status in May and is already working toward its mission to support the township’s firefighters while strengthening community ties. The group will host its first fundraiser this summer and has no shortage of ideas for the future. “We are very motivated, upbeat and energetic,” said Mary Damm, founder of the organization. “We really feel like the sky is the limit.” Damm has worked as an emergency dispatcher for the Chesterfield Township Public Safety Department for nearly a decade. When the dispatch center at the police department recently underwent renovations, employees were moved to the fire department. It was during this time the idea for the group was sparked.
