VIDEO: Last week, The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division deployed Michigan Task Force 1’s swift-water team. They are helping with potential water search and rescue operations in North Carolina in the wake of the damage caused by tropical storm Helene. “Michigan Task Force 1 has 148 members, 12 of whom are on the team of over 40 different fire departments. We have nineteen people from 10 different fire departments with four boats and a lot of rescue equipment,” said one of Michigan Task Force 1’s leaders, Chris Martin. The swift-water team was in Chimney Rock on Sunday, an area in North Carolina heavily affected by Helene. The team was rescuing people who were stranded on a bridge near a road that collapsed.
