More than 300 firefighters from more than 100 different departments in Minnesota gathered in Rochester this weekend for fire and rescue training. "Advanced Pumping" was just one of the many training stations at the Minnesota State Fire EMS Rescue School at the Heintz Center at Rochester Community and Technical College. "I want them to be very competent in what they are doing, but just as much confidence," said Tim Farmer, a retired firefighter from Coon Rapids. He's been training firefighters since 1978. "A lot of times they know what they are doing, but they are always second-guessing themselves," he said. "I teach them under the worst of conditions, you don't have the ultimate hose. They are kind of learning what it can and can't do."
