A fire that engulfed a boat at Red Wing's Ole Miss Marina was caused by an electrical arc, according to the fire marshal. On the evening of Aug. 7, just after 6 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from the engine room of a boat at J Dock at Ole Miss Marina. The board sustained significant damage, and two adjacent boats received moderate damage due to the blaze. Fire Marshal Andy Speltz said an investigation of the fire revealed that electrical arcing occurred at a 50 amp cable near the air conditioning shore power receptacle. Because the cable was housed in a concealed space, the fire was allowed to grow before being detected. Based on fire scene examination, the fire originated at the port side of the lower aft master estate room, Speltz said.
