Mike Cison, Coon Rapids’ newest career firefighter, was given the oath of office by Mayor Jerry Koch and had his badge pinned on him by his wife Becky in a ceremony at the Coon Rapids City Council meeting Aug. 7. Cison is not new to the Coon Rapids Fire Department. He has been a paid-on-call firefighter with the department since 2012. According to Fire Chief John Piper, Cison grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from West Lutheran High School in Plymouth in 2005 before serving in the U.S. Navy 2005-2010. As a firefighter, Cison will not only respond to emergencies, but will also be responsible to maintain his knowledge, skills and physical abilities as well as provide quality service to customers, according to Piper. “I know you will provide many years of excellent service to our city,” Piper said.
