At least one person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a Winona apartment complex late Tuesday night. Winona assistant fire chief Joel Corcoran said the call came in at 11:29 p.m. A neighbor had spotted flames shooting out of a window at an apartment building in the 1200 block of Gilmore Avenue. When the first truck arrived, there were flames visible from both the first and second floors. Corcoran said that there were six people in the building at the time of the fire, and all six got out. He said at least one person was taken to the hospital; a neighbor mentioned that he put a second person into an ambulance as well. Crews did a room-by-room search through the windows, Corcoran said, and nobody else was found. The American Red Cross was on scene to assist the residents find shelter for the night. Assisting the Winona Fire Department were the Goodview Fire Department, Winona Police Department and Winona County Sheriff's Office.
