The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says a house in Lavell Township is believed to be a "total loss" after a fire on Sunday afternoon. The fire was reported around 4:40 p.m. in the 9500 block of the Zim Road, which is southeast of Hibbing. Crews from McDavitt Township, Cherry Township, Clinton Township, Central Lakes, and Toivola were dispatched to the blaze, and found the house showing flames from the east side. The sheriff's office says the lone resident of the house escaped without injury, and was able to flag down a passerby who called 911. The occupant of the house told the sheriff's office the fire started in the basement of the house, most likely due to a space heater, which was being used to warm the water lines. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting in investigating the cause of the fire.
