The Red Wing Fire Department responded to two fires Friday night — at the same house. A report of a kitchen fire at 7:32 p.m. prompted the fire department to rush to the 1000 block of Main Street, where a two-story residential house had smoke and fire showing from the first floor. Firefighters who entered the house found a kitchen fire on the first floor. Two occupants were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System Red Wing, one with a burn injury and the other with smoke inhalation. The fire was extinguished. Smoke damage was noted on all floors of the building, and the house was deemed not habitable, officials say. Nearly two hours later, firefighters responded to a structure fire in the same building. Heavy smoke was issuing from the roof of the two-story structure when firefighters arrived. The house was not occupied at the time, and the fire was under control within one hour after arrival. There was a partial collapse of the roof.
