The Winona Fire Department will open its stations to the public as part of Fire Prevention Week.
National Fire Prevention Week runs Oct. 6-12.
The Winona FD will hold open houses at both its fire houses — Central Fire Station, 451 E. 3rd St., and West Fire Station, 1077 W. Broadway — from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. The stations will be open for tours, and visitors can enjoy aerial truck demonstrations, learn about different firefighting apparatus and equipment, and rescue equipment. There will also be snacks and refreshments.
At Central Station, Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand to entertain guests young and old. There will also be fun hand-outs. A drawing will be held to select three names for a ride home from school in a fire truck. Brothers or sisters of the name drawn, living at the same address, will also be welcome for the ride home from school.
