The cermony is held in remembernce of how horses weren't able to push fire apparatus' in which led to firefighters having to do it by hand. At the same time, this ceremony honored those who had fallen in the line of duty. Engine 16 is dedicated to Stanley O'Brien who died along with Ambrose Riley. The two had been trying to save a boy on Christmas Eve in 1953. Engine 2 is dedicated to Ambrose Riley.
