Two firefighers celebrated their promotions in front of their families and friends on Saturday. They were promoted from the position of firefighter to captains. Captain Eric Fix and Captain Brent Graunke received their ceremonial pins at a ceremony held Saturday morning at Fire Station 1. As part of the ceremony, the new captains had their bugles pinned to their collars by members of their family. The new captains were introduced by Fire Chief Eric Kerska. RFD has six Engine companies and two Truck companies that are staffed 24 hours a day. Each company has one captain assigned on each of three shifts. Captain Fix is assigned to Engine 4, Battalion 2; and Captain Graunke is assigned to Engine 16, Battalion 1. The two captain positions were vacated due to recent retirements.
