The Jasper Volunteer Fire Department and Jasper Ambulance Association were recently awarded grants from the Prairie Rose Minnesota Community Fund to help them purchase new equipment. The Jasper Fire Department was awarded $7,229.85 for the purchase of three sets of turnout gear and the Jasper Ambulance Association received $2,062 for the purchase of five pagers. Jasper City Clerk/Treasurer Cortney Kounkel, who completed the grant applications, said each organization will purchase the equipment, forward the invoice to Prairie Rose and then receive reimbursement. Jasper Fire Chief Jeff Leslie and Jasper Ambulance Association Vice President Jim Veldkamp said the funds were greatly appreciated. “For a small town it makes quite a bit of difference,” Leslie said.
