Crews responded to a fire that destroyed a building at a Mankato auto business Monday. Crews arrived on the scene shortly after 1 p.m. at Dean’s Northtown Auto at 1513. N. Riverfront Drive in Mankato. Much of the building collapsed as crews worked to battle the blaze behind Northtown Auto’s main building. Employees were able to get out of the building after a gas tank caught fire and explosions could be heard coming from the building. “When we arrived we did find a heavy amount of fo fire that was coming through the building,” said Associate Director of Public Safety Jeff Bengston. “We’ve been attacking it for the last couple of hours. The building will be a total loss.” Mankato Department of Public Safety said no one was injured in the blaze. Damages are estimated at $350,000.
