Dozens of firefighters responded to a fire at a former furniture store in Duluth's Lincoln Park neighborhood at midday Tuesday. The fire happened in the two-story building at Superior Street and 21st Avenue West that was formerly home to Roberts Home Furnishings. Firefighters found heavy smoke venting from an elevator penthouse on the roof when they arrived around 12:30 p.m. According to a news release from the city, crews had difficulty finding the origin of the fire due to a challenging layout. St. Louis County property records show the structure was constructed as three separate buildings, two of them in 1890 and the third in 1901, and it has been home to a number of businesses. Firefighters eventually located the fire in the basement and remained on scene for a couple of hours. Thirty firefighters from seven fire companies responded to the call.
