The Rochester Fire Department was called just after 10:10 a.m. Tuesday to 5501 65th Street NW for a report of a person who fell into a trench at a construction site.
Firefighters were able to rescue the person, whose identity was not released, within about 10 minutes of arriving on scene. The construction worker was taken by ambulance for medical treatment.
"Trenches are a danger that is of high risk and low frequency. Never enter the trench to rescue," the fire department cautioned in a news release. Remember to call 911 immediately as there are hidden dangers associated with trenches including but not limited to low oxygen levels and toxic gasses resulting in asphyxiation. Trenches can, and do collapse onto unsuspecting and untrained rescuers which could result in death."
