Firefighters have a chance to enter a program to help keep their hearts healthy.
The company Step One Foods wants our firefighters as healthy as possible. So, it will be supplying fire departments with food for a month.
In return, the firefighters will get a cholesterol test before and after the program- to see if it helped their heart.
Step One Foods saw terrific results with a Minnesota-based fire department during the Healthy Hearts for Heroes Project. "In 30 days we saw, based on cholesterol responses, an 18 percent reduction in cardiovascular risk across the department," Step One Foods founder Dr. Elizabeth Klodas said. "Which is astonishing and it speaks to the power of nutrition and food in affecting outcomes."
