The Duluth police and fire departments are now teaming up on high-risk calls. The DPD’s Tactical Response Team is adding 10 Duluth firefighters as Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) operators for the TEMS Program that starts Tuesday. Those TEMS operators will train with the Tactical Response Team and be the first medical responders on scene during high-risk calls, such as an active shooter, a suspect barricaded inside a home, or a standoff. Their specialized training will help them handle specific injuries that could come up during those incidents. Operators will provide medical expertise while working with the Tactical Response Team. “Having the support of TEMS operators during high-risk calls is best practice for both DFD and DPD in keeping our community safe if a tragic incident occurs within Duluth,” Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa said.
