VIDEO: Emergency crews were forced to close 24 Highway in both directions in Independence Wednesday morning due to a building fire. That fire happened at 24 Highway and College Avenue early Wednesday. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were showing from the building. That building at one point housed a Discount Smoke Shop and car audio business. For Rent signs are posted on the side of the building that housed the smoke shop. No word yet on what caused this fire. This incident remains under investigation. Independence Police asked motorists to avoid the area, which is approximately three blocks east of William Chrisman High School. while fire crews remained on the scene.
